The Challenge

Pharos gave organizations real-time visibility into biological outbreaks and public health risks. The science was rigorous and the data was thorough — but the interface asked users to do the work the design should have handled. Too many urgency levels, overlapping icons, and confidence indicators forced a health risk manager to read deeply just to answer one question: does this threat require my attention right now?

Our Solution

We started with prioritization, not aesthetics—clarifying what users needed to understand first, then redesigning the hierarchy, visual language, and interface around those decisions.

1. Content Audit: Charted every content pattern across the platform — urgency, threat, and action levels, trend and confidence signals — and mapped exactly where the experience broke down.
2. Information Hierarchy: Reframed the experience around what belongs on the surface, what belongs one layer deeper, and what belongs further still, so users could quickly understand a threat’s significance and determine whether action was needed.
3. Design Roadmap: Delivered implementation-ready recommendations that gave stakeholders a clear path from expert-level data to user-first clarity.
