Feature & Workflow Design
Design or redesign a specific feature or workflow so it works for users, fits the larger product, and is ready for engineering to build.
From a defined initiative to a well-integrated experience
Sometimes you know what needs to move forward: a new feature, an existing workflow that isn't working, or a specific part of the product that needs to be redesigned. The challenge is turning that initiative into an experience that works not only on its own, but within the product around it.Souveau brings senior product design judgment to a focused area of the experience, working through the interactions, flows, edge cases, and surrounding context needed to make it clear, usable, and buildable.
The Problem
Features rarely exist in isolation. A change that solves one problem can introduce another, duplicate existing functionality, conflict with established patterns, or make sense within one workflow while creating confusion elsewhere.
That makes seemingly contained design work more complicated than producing a set of screens. The feature needs to solve the problem at hand while fitting naturally into the product users already understand and the system engineering already has to support.
Signs You May Need This
- You know what you want to build, but the experience hasn’t been fully worked out.
- An existing feature or workflow creates confusion, unnecessary steps, or recurring user friction.
- A new feature needs to fit naturally into an established product and its existing patterns.
- Requirements exist, but important interactions, states, or edge cases are still unresolved.
- The team has a direction but needs senior design judgment before engineering commits to implementation.
- A feature has evolved incrementally and now needs to be reconsidered as a complete experience.
What Souveau does
Souveau leads the design of a defined feature or workflow, beginning with enough product context to understand how it fits into the surrounding experience. Existing requirements and assumptions are examined rather than simply translated into screens, with issues surfaced when they could compromise the experience or create problems elsewhere in the product.
From there, Souveau works through the structure, flows, interactions, states, and interface needed for the initiative. The exact design artifacts depend on the work: user flows, wireframes, prototypes, interface designs, responsive behavior, or implementation guidance are used where they help move the feature toward a buildable solution.
What you leave with
- A defined experience for the feature or workflow
- Key flows, interactions, states, and edge cases worked through
- Designs that fit the surrounding product and established design system
- Relevant assumptions, constraints, and design decisions documented
- Design artifacts appropriate to the initiative, from flows and wireframes to prototypes and interface designs
- A clear design direction engineering can use to move into implementation
Best for
Teams with a specific feature, workflow, or contained product area that needs senior design attention without bringing in ongoing design support.
Typical Engagement
A focused, project-based engagement scoped around a specific feature, workflow, or contained product area. The work includes enough surrounding product context to design the experience responsibly, while keeping the engagement centered on the defined initiative.
Scope and deliverables are determined by what the initiative actually needs rather than a fixed design process or predetermined set of artifacts.
